Sealand 

Sealand is also called as Principality of Sealand. It is a sovereign but unrecognized Micro-nation. Bates Family is the Royal Family of Sealand. It was founded on 2 September, 1967. Sealand has its own Flag, Currency, Constitution, ID Cards, Passports, Postal Stamps and Capital.

Population and Area of Sealand

Sealand has an area of 550 m² and it has a total population of 27 inhabitants. Its economy is about 1 million US dollars.

Location of Sealand

It is located on HM Fort Roughs, a former World War II Maunsell Sea Fort in the North, 6 nautical miles off the coast of Suffolk, England. Sealand is not in the England territory but in the international waters.

History of Sealand

During World War II, UK decided to set up a number of military bases along east coast of England, the purpose of which was to defend England against German air raids. Royal fort Roughs Tower was one of these air bases. After World War II ended, the troops were withdrawn from all bases by the British Government. None of them was ever used by the United Kingdom again, leaving the forts deserted and abandoned.

On 2 September 1967, the fort was occupied by Major Paddy Roy Bates, a British subject and pirate radio broadcaster, who wanted to broadcast a pirate radio station (Radio Essex) from it.

In June 2006, the top platform of the Roughs Tower caught fire due to an electrical failure but extinguished soon.

In January 2009, the Kingdom of Marduk claimed ownership of Sealand.

Government of Sealand

Bates Family is ruling over Sealand. Prince Roy Bates and Princess Joan are rulers of Sealand and their son His Royal Highness Prince Michael has been nominated as Prince Regent. 

Become a Lord or Lady of Sealand

You can become an Official Land/Lady of Sealand by paying only few GBP. You will get official certificate of lordship by post and after this you can use title of Lord as prefix to your name. You can also get an Identity Card of Sealand by paying its fee.
